Back ground fabric  ( Black )

Whirlygig Fabric (Fun and Playful)

Take (1) 4Ó background and (1) 4Ó whirligig fabric and place right sides together. Draw a diagonal line on the lightest fabric and sew a quarter (1/4Ó) inch away from both sides of the line. Cut along drawn line to make two HST. (You will need to trim these to 3 ½Ó )  Assemble as above drawing. Trim to measure 12½" x 12½".

Light tone-on-tone print

(16) 3½" squares

Assembly Instructions: Draw a diagonal line, on the wrong side of the fabric, on the sixteen white tone-on-tone 3½" squares. Layer one white tone-on-tone print 3½" square on the right side of the dark print 3½" x 6½" rectangle with the diagonal line going from upper left side to lower right side. Sew directly on top of the drawn line. Cut away excess fabric ¼" from the seam line. Press seam allowance towards white fabric. Layer another white tone-on-tone print 3½" square on the left side of the unit created in Step 1. The diagonal line should go from lower left side to upper right side. Sew directly on top of the drawn line. Cut away excess fabric ¼" from the seam line. Press seam allowance towards white fabric. Trim units as needed to bring them back to original size of 3½" x 6½". Be sure all points are crisp. Attach units as per diagram. Press to the larger triangle. Trim units to 6½" square. Join units together to create block as shown. Trim to measure 12½" x 12½".
