With summer weather calling us outdoors, some find it difficult to get to the sewing machine, much less take on a quilting project. So here is a challenge to you:
Carve 1 hour out of each day to use for sewing.
This can be early morning before the family is awake, during the afternoon when it is too hot to be outside, or after dinner when the family is watching TV. Perhaps it will be late at night after everyone else is in bed, but find an hour--just one hour--when you will do SOMETHING related to sewing.
It might be as simple as: ¥ tidy your sewing space ¥ organizing your fabric ¥ arranging threads by color ¥ cleaning the lint from the bottom of you machine ¥ --- anything, just do SOMETHING for an hour
A daily hour will allow you to do all those little things cause delay when you DO have time for that sewing project.
With careful planning you might, in one hour: ¥ get the strips cut for a set of 9-patch blocks for our Hearts and Flowers quilts or for a future project of your own.
¥ finish half a dozen 9-patch blocks
¥ trace the outline for an applique project on lightweight interfacing
¥ stitch the interfacing to the fabric for an applique project
¥ turn the stitched applique pieces to prepare to fuse an appliqued block (this could be done while watching TV, traveling, or in a waiting room) ¥ choose a pattern and select fabrics for your next "small project"
¥ cut the backing for a baby quilt
¥ cut the pieces for a disappearing 9-patch baby quilt
¥ sew strips or blocks together for a 9-patch baby quilt
¥ cut one fabric for blocks of a larger quilt pattern
¥ cut another fabric for a larger quilt project
¥ sew the first step for all the blocks of the larger quilt project
¥ sew for the next step for multiple blocks for a larger quilt
¥ set up a drawer or box for "scraps" to use in crazy quilts or applique
¥ make background blocks for a crazy quilt
¥ sew ONE block for a crazy quilt
¥ make a 6" heart block
¥ make a simple 12" house block
¥ cut the pieces for a Block of the Month block
¥ do one step in the BOM block
¥ browse the Guild website for INSPIRATION
