The Walla Walla Valley Quilt Guild has chosen to use their love of quilts to reach out to the community in several ways. Our regular projects include:

Baby Quilts

are baby quilts that we make for our local hospitals to give to special needs babies and mothers who are struggling to have what they need for their babies. Each member is encouraged to bring in an average of one First Steps quilt a month. At the end of the year for those who have participated with an average of 1 quilt per month are entered in a drawing for a year-end prize. We share and submit the baby quilts, as the are completed, at our Guild meetings.

ALS and Youth Quilts

are larger than baby quilts--more like lap quilts. These go to hospitals (often for ALS patients in Seattle) for older children and youth who just need some extra comfort. This project came from a suggestion by Carrie Fernald, former Guild member and an ALS patient herself(see links under ALS in column at left.) We continue the project in memory of our dear friend and fellow quilter. These quilts, too, are brought to share and submit at the monthly Guild meetings.

See pictures and the presentation of quilts donated in 2009.

Women's Shelter Quilts

are twin-bed-sized quilts we are making for the Women's Shelter in Walla Walla. They can be any design, but must fit twin beds. Our goal is to make 24 quilts for the shelter.
The Baby, Women's Shelter, and Youth quilts are completed by individual Guild members. They can be any pattern, any color, and/or theme of block. The member backs and finishes the quilt to bring for submission.

The next two categories of quilts are NOT backed and finished by the members individually. These blocks are prepared by the members and a group of the members backs and finishes the quilts.

Habitat for Humanity

receives our HOUSE block quilts. The blocks are made by members as they can get them done. They must be 12.5 x 12.5 inches unfinished. They are submitted at Guild meetings. When we have enough blocks, a group of Guild members put the quilts together. We give them to Habitat for Humanity for families who receive a Habitat home in our area. The blocks can be of ANY house--your choice, made in any method of your choice (patched, appliqued, embroidered, etc). Bring your finished blocks to the monthly Guild meeting.

Hearts and Flowers

are quilts of love and friendship that are made from blocks submitted by members as they can make them. The blocks are 6.5 x 6.5 inches unfinished, and should be made with "happy colors". Blocks with heart patterns (any kind) and flower patterns (any kind) are combined with 9-patch blocks to make these lap quilts. Members can submit any of the three block choices. We encourage members to sign their blocks. These quilts are given to members and others who are ill, grieving, or just having a particularly rough time. The blocks are accepted each month at the Guild meetings.

Project Linus

is a program held at Walla Walla Sew and Vac to make quilts for children. For more information about meeting times, go HERE.
